Cops offer $2,500 reward in Williamsburg paintball attacks

A rogue paintball-gunman blasted a Hasidic Jewish man with a brightly colored mess in Williamsburg in the early morning hours last week — the fourth such attack in the neighborhood this year, according to police.

The latest victim was walking home at 1:53 am on June 29 when a lout in a black Acura sedan pulled up behind him at the corner of Lee Avenue and Rutledge Street, fired a water-soluble slug into his rear shoulder, and sped away, police said.

The victim caught the license plate of the car and police said they are now trying to track down the vehicle's 19-year-old owner.

The attack follows a spree of similar strikes in the largely Orthodox Jewish section of the neighborhood in March, according to police. On March 22, a cretin shot a man in the neck with a paintball at the corner of Hewes Street and Kent Avenue at 8:50 pm, then hit another victim at the corner of Marcy Avenue and Lorimer Street, cops said. Five nights later, a yahoo shot a paintball at a victim on Morton Avenue at Juliana Place, police said.

Authorities said they are investigating all of the attacks as possible hate crimes, and are offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Police ask anyone with information regarding the attacks to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577–8477. The public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577.
