Dov Hikind does tshuvah, endorses Noach Dear

Almost no one could have predicted it, but Assemblyman Dov Hikind is endorsing longtime rival Noach Dear for Civil Court judge in Brooklyn.

"We're both older," said Hikind. "We both have children. We both have grandchildren. Life goes on. He's running, and I support him."

Orthodox Jews Hikind and Dear represented the same Borough Park neighborhood before term limits forced Dear off the City Council in 2001.

Comments:
Boruch Hashem!

It can't be because of his qualifications as a jurist. As far as I know, although Dear did graduate law school and eventually passed the Bar, he has very limited experience practicing law. It must be to eliminate him as a candidate for the Assembly.

Clearly Hikind has something to gain by endorsing Dear...ortherwise hw wouldn't bother.

I suppose this is what you call Teshuva.

to 11:19 post. You are such a YUTZ with a Capital P Dove ran 12 elections with no opposition has been in office for 25 years all major candidates for Senate, Governor, Congress, Mayor come to him for his endorsement and you think he is afraid of nthe 4 time looser you gotta be kidding...

To:"Anonymous : June 17, 2007 4:45 PM" You are such a YUTZ with a Capital P Dove ran 12 elections with no opposition...
Are you such a Yutz that you think there's nothing in this for Dov? In his own words, "Don't be Naive", Anonymous 4:45.

To Anon 4:45....Clearly you are a Yutz with capital Y and a PUTZ all capitals. Why would Dov even bother to endorse a lifelong "enemy" if he has nothing to gain.

I am certainly not a yutz, even though I know Noach. Dear certainly is not the most qaulified man for Civil Court. There has to be a reason for Dov's endorsement.

to 8:20 Yes I believe there is nothing in it for Dov (not "DOVE")and I am not naive

TO ANON 4:45, the biggest Yutz of all:There are many MORE qualified and experienced candidates (highly rated by all the judicial screening panels and bar associations for many years) in the frum community, who have been seeking this position for much longer. And IN COMES NOACH! He he.
This scenario would make for good Country Yossi lyrics.

Backing Noach might have been an OK idea, if there were SIXTY spots open for frum candidates, and Dov backed him for one of them. It would be Botul B'Shishim. But there aren't. The chances to help elect a frum candidate are few and far between. And he chose Noach.

Could anyone explain how having a frum Civil Court judge benefits the frum community?

Does anyone think Dear has a judicial temperament?

I am not too familiar with the local politics. I am wondering how does Simcha Felder come in, with whom is Smicha aligned?

Also I thought that Noah will run for his old seat that will get vacated by Simcha’s term limits. What’s the roomer, who is preparing to run for Simcha’s counsel seat?

I think many of the readers here would appreciate a good and open summary of the local political camps.

TO: Could anyone explain how having a frum Civil Court judge benefits the frum community?

Sheesh! That's easy.

If the person is highly acclaimed by Bar Associations and Judicial Screening Panels, honest, a legal scholar, and easy to work with, it can only be a Kiddush Hashem.
Have you heard of that term?

TO: ...how having a frum Civil Court judge benefits the frum community?
Gimme a break. They get to rub noses with lawmakers and have the possibility of influence on party positions in the present climate of immorality and antisemitism.
Should all Heimishe men be truck drivers and diamond dealers?

Gimme a break - The Civil Court judges get to rub noses with no one. They are barred from involement in political campaigns. All they do day in and day out are civil cases such as malpractice and accidents.

TO:Gimme a break - The Civil Court judges get to rub noses with no one.
HA!
Are you forgetting it's a stepping stone to Supreme Court? They do shlocky cases too?

Anyhow, it's IRRELEVANT. ONLY the most qualified men of the borough/ community should be chosen! Otherwise, it's obvious politicking! Shame on you, DOV.

simcha felder will endorse anyone dov hikind endorses. while simcha is a great guy (in my opinion), he always shared same political opinions as Dov Hikind. If not for Dov, Simcha would've never been elected in the first place. this is obvios.

secondly, Dov has endorsed Noach Dear not too long ago & even had him on his radio show as if they were old pals. The rule is Dov will endorse Noach Dear so long as Noach Dear is not running against him or simcha felder.

Time to reinvent Noach Dear , with a different persona, Dov. Ha ha.

Dov couldn't care less what any of us say. Unless, we're one of his Moola Fountains, that is.

Noach Dear belongs in court, but as a defendant in a criminal case.
remember it was just a few years ago that he was caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He created a charity to steal money from it

At least he's familiar with both sides of the bench

"New York City Councilman Noach Dear has agreed to repay more than $37000 to a private foundation that paid for expenses like telephones in his home and ...
"

HE HE.

GOOD CHOICE, DOV.

Anyone knows who is posed to run for Simchas seat?

Anyone knows who is posed to run for Simchas seat?
IS JOHN GOTTI STILL AROUND?

After all he's a grand$father like Hikind and Dear.

Right!

"We both have grandchildren. ". That's a good reason to back Noach.

Hasn't anyone heard, family doesn't mean anything to DEAR. He's known as the GOD FATHER in the family, everyone fears for their own life. He's the exterminator. You cross him you are mince meat. Take it from someone who knows.

Whether the Godfather post was sarcastic or not, the fact remains that he's a crooked politician.

A couple of comments from an attorney in the neighborhood:

There are two legal subjects that most lawyers never look at after the bar exam: Civil Procedure and Evidence. The only exception is trial lawyers (litigators) who need to know this stuff on a daily basis.

In contrast to Justice David Schmidt, whose name is often mentioned here and who was law clerk to another judge before rising to the bench himself, Dear has no courtroom experience.

In further contrast to the Kiddush Hashem we see from judges like Schmidt, Ruchelsman, etc. who know the law and dispense justice in their courtroom, what can we expect from Noach? Hmm, the mind boggles at the possibilities.

ATTORNEY: Objection, Your Honor. Hearsay.

Judge Dear: Voos iz doos?

Vote for him at your peril.

Chas v'Shalom he gets elected and wears a kipah on the bench!
