Kosher crab chips?!

Comments:
nowadays hatovel usheretz byado the sheretz becomes tahor

taste even better than the real thing!

this isn't anything new. It's been around for at least 7 years. The seasoning isn't crab flavor - its the same seasoning they use to flavor crabs. The whole concept is disgusting to me - but ateast it isn't bacon flavored

read the bag.
it says crab seasoning.
that means the seasoning you would put on crabs, not actual crabs.
not much of a story there.

mr chaptaem . please tell us why u are showing us a bag of utz chips

of course.

as any nice jewish boy or girl from Maryland could tell you (i know some people from there), crab potato chips are flavored with crab seasoning, the spice mixture that non-jewish and non-kosher-keeping Marylanders put not just on crab, but on everything else.

while the crab isn't kosher, the spice mixture is.

Yeah, those have been around for a while. Obviously, they don't really contain crab ingredients otherwise the OU wouldn't give it a hechsher.

Did you know that Utz is a Jewish owned & operated company? It is owned by a few heimishe yidden named Unger, Tessler and Zuckerman, hence the name Utz. I'm told that the company used to be owned by Perlstien, Unger, Tessler and Zuckerman, but the latter partners bought out Perlstien's cheilik because the chips weren't selling.

and what about pareve duck sauce and steak sauce.

Chaptzem - we need an investigation

I don't doubt the kashrus but it looks disgusting ech.

My heart desires crab, but what can I do God instructed me not to eat it -- loose paraphrase of the Talmud.

Let's not get crabby over some chips, lest we won't be able to claw out of this mess.

to the person who wrote: Let's not get crabby over some chips, lest we won't be able to claw out of this mess.

WELL DONE!!! boy, i didn't know jewish people could actually write so appropriately - nice to see the creative side to us finally

The U potato chip company or the H cpmpany, I forgot which, makes some really non-kosher products. I assume the hashgacha is careful equipment. It is not that different from a lot of Heimish brands whose food is made in another company's equipment and then put in heimish bags.

Does anyone know for sure if this is a Heimishe company, as it states in one of the comments. It states that it is owned by Unger, Tessler and Zuckerman. I am wondering, as I would like to know if it is Bishul Yisroel. Awaiting your comments. Thanks

Are you mad that was a joke its not owned by Unger, Tessler and Zuckerman its owned by the same family who started the company in 1931. There family involvement remained strong, and several fourth-generation Utzes had begun working for the firm. Management of the firm was now being handled by Francis Xavier "F.X." Rice, a business school graduate who had married the Utzes' daughter Arlene. After the deaths of Salie Utz in 1965 and Bill Utz in 1968, F.X. Rice became president of the firm.

Happy Now ;-)

The joke is fine with me, but had I not asked the question, many people would go ahead and start eating it thinking that it is bishul yisroel. I did not say that it is not kosher, but some people are very machmir about bishul yisroel. So please, be careful with your jokes. (It was a good one though). I did susupect it was a joke, that is why I questioned it.

For all those who may be super makpid on Bishul Yisroel: Firstly, find out from your local orthodox rabbi if potatos in this form or in any/all forms indeed meets the criteria for this halacha.
Secondly, if you were fererring to the crabs, they are definitely Oleh al Shulchal Melachim and would require to be cooked by an observant Jew. Enjoy!

UTZ makes PORK RINDS too.
Ceck it out.
