This Shul asks the women NOT to wear a sheitel

Sent in by a reader.

Comments:
I would do it too (not wear a sheitel) if everyone else did it where I daven, or live, but, I don't want to stand out and look different or too "fafrumpt". Sheitels are uncomforatble and expensive (and sometimes too attractive and provocative) and I wouldn't mind if everyone stopped wearing them.

What exactly is the English translation of the sign?

Thanks.

REB YOEL TEITELBAUM, THE LATE GRAND SATMAR RABBI ASKED HIS CHASIDIM NOT TO WEAR A SHEITEL IN SHUL ON ROSH HASHONA AND YOM KIPUR.
FOR THE PAST 55 YEARS ALL WOMEN IN ALL SATMAR SHULS WEAR A WHITE TURBAN OR SCARF TO COVER THEIR HEAD.
IT IS JUST BEAUTIFUL TO SEE HOW ALL WOMEN WALK TO SHUL ON THE THREE DAYS AND THEY ALL LOOK BEAUTIFUL.

While I agree with the 2:30 post, I DO hope the poster was a female, for having a man say that they look beautiful would undo the very benefit intended.

To the previous comentators, This sign was directed toward the men, since none of the satmarer men shave their legs, it would be quite an ugly site if they were wearing see-through shtrimp, and in effort to maintain Kavoona during Shmoineh Esreh the administration posted this sign. (from reliable sources:)

Since when is being unattractive a virtue?

Woman of Satmar, it is time to say enough is enough! Do what you like, wear what you like. Those men in the community want to keep you looking ugly since they are afraid that you might become career woman, get an education and leave them. Leave them already! Only you know what is good for you. It is time to break the bonds of oppression.

I agree with 10:35 comment, I would deffinetly take off my sheitel if there are more people doing it, my hear is nice without it.

Do you really think Satmar women are unhappy? You are mistaken. Chsidishe women are happier than anybody that I know.
They stay home raise kids and have great spouses who dote on them. There is very little competition out there.
What would make you think when you wear whatever you want you are happier.
What is wrong with having a dress code.
Check out chasidishe women. I rather think they look great!
I know many non chsidishe men who would love to marry one.

Who says a different type of headcovering (other than a sheitel) is unattractive. It is a matter of tznius not attractiveness. A woman doesn't have to be ugly an unattractive, just not attracting to men.The posts from 9:18PM was facetious and uncalled for and the post from 10:27 PM shows disrespect for the holy laws of the Torah which include tznius.

It all boils down to what the halacha dictates .The satmer rov held shaitels are not allowed and really all year round women should not wear a shaitel either, but he was able to enforce it on the days of awe by saying I will not have in mind to be yozeh the women wearing shaitels . The other great sages like the chofetz chaim held a shaitel is permitted. In no way should any body make fun of people following their mesorah

Where does it say that the Chofetz Chaim allowed a sheitel? I learned the opposite. The permission, if any, was only given to keep the women from getting beat up by the non-Jews, as they were easily recognized as Jews in the scarves. They all flew off heads after WWI anyway.

A permission became a mesora? It was never our heritage for Jewish women to wear non-Jewish hair. While they are attractive, and indeed make a woman look prettier (when worn properly), it is not the way of Jewish women to look like non-Jewish glamour-girls.

By the way, where is this shul?

...still laughing at 9:18's comment...sail through it all with a sense of humor, that's my motto. :)
