Expanding B & H Photo gives workers five-day work-week
Someone has finally told B & H Photo that in New York people have five-day work-weeks. B & H Photo is now letting all their workers have another day off besides for Shabbos. People that work in the mail-order department can take Sundays off, while all other workers have to work on Sunday and can take a weekday off. I guess they realized that their work-horses were being overworked and underpaid.

Hmm, maybe because B&H is run by chasidim and a significant percentage of its employees are haredim?
1-Do you think that a change was made because they felt sorry for the workers, or to attract more workers?
2- If workers were able to get better jobs elsewhere, they wouldn't have stayed a day.

Maybe they COULD have found better jobs elsewhere, but preferred to stay in a haimish environment. But just because they choose to work there doesn't mean they can't be exploited by their employers (i.e. a 6 day work week). They made the right choise to work there, and now (finally) B&H made the right choice to cut back the hours. My friend's husband works for them and it was very frustrating for her to never see her husband except Shabbos, and I'm sure he didn;t love it either.

This is not about B&H because I don't know. But here's a thought:
Next time I hear about a big business owner giving lots of Tzedakah , blah , blah , I'll ak how he treates his employees. That's where tzedakah and Tzedek begins.

Or this has to do with the fact that they just setteled a $4.3 Million dollar lawsuit about equal employment?
B&H settles discrimination suit, agrees to pay $4.3 million

when pepole want to sell their business and get the most money for it they must make dramatic changes, less overtime, 5 days work week would just be some of them.
As a worker there. u people are all talking B S. B&H is a great place and btw the're paying by the hour so every second above 40 hours is TIME AND HALF and this has nothing to do with the 4.3m lew su
I have a very good friend that is employed by B&H for many years...My friend likes it there because he has nowhere else to go and work since he grew up in Willy and does not have much education , so B&H is the only place that he was able to get a job...He told me that he is thrilled with his Sunday off and he can now have more time to enjoy his life and hang out and enjoy himself with his friends on Sundays....
