Gypsy women out collecting in Boro-Park

Sent in by a Chaptzem reader

Comments:
pairs of these woman are standing on street corners all over Boro Park. They are dressed really tzniusdik but once they start to talk you can tell they aren't yidden

They are also in the Bathurst/Lawrence neighborhood in Toronto. They say they're from Budapest. The young girls are also wearing tichels.

I also se these women in Monsey all the time. I have spoken to them and they ARE NOT JEWISH. They dress as frum women. They are not Jewish. Yes they are gypsy's from Moldovia. In Monsey they are at Wesley Kosher, Amazing savings and Rockland Kosher. They know me and my car. They see me and run away. People buy them chicken, diapers etc. and give a lot of money. I am glad you have pictures of them. Everyone needs to see this becuse they make a fortune of money on a false pretence.

My only question is: Do we give anyway when they ask. After all, how do we know 100 percent that they aren't jewish? Don't get me wrong, i'd hate to give my maaser money or stam tzedoko to a non-jew, as the mitzvo of tzedoka applies only when giving to a yid. Charity to non-jews is a nice thing to do, it's a kiddush Hashem at times, and it's always good to help if we can, but what do we do when they lie to us and we're not sure? Do we give anyway, or, based on what we've heard, or our own judgment, can we say no? Cause, personally, i'd hate to say no to Eliyahu Hanavi.

I think the point is missed.

The questions is not if mitzvas tzdaka or not.

They are conartists, and are scamming everyone, for all you know they might not even be poor atall, just their way of life.

On the other hand, if we give tzadaka and do chesed without judgment, may hashem repay us and waive any judgement

"Cause, personally, i'd hate to say no to Eliyahu Hanavi"

If it is Eliyahu HaNavi, wouldn't he also be collecting money under false pretenses?

;)

I get asked all the time how do I really know. They are pure scammers. I spoke to them before they understood my motive. THEY ARE NOT JEWISH. They delibertly dress in a religous fashion. They know we give money. They are scamming us. If a begger beggs is one thing. But those who are trying to con you by dressing Frum is another. It is not Tzedaka. Its not for Shabbos. They are not jreish. They all have the same pat answer. DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY

what do they do or say that gives thier false identity away?

They cannot answer a single question. What their jewish name is. What their mother or fathers name. A Rabbi or a Shul name. Where they daven. Does not know what Modei Ani is or Shma. What yeshiva the kids go to. If you look that religios shouldnt you know one of these answers? It's the whole picture. This is a pure fraud case.

would they get more money if they would NOT pretend to be jews? whether they are rich or not is none of our business, if someone asks for help, you have to give it to him, pikuah nefesh applies to ALL

Therre is a gypsy with what appears to be a wooden leg wearing a yarmulka and a lady with a walker every erev shabbos. Both gypsies pretending to be Jewish. a lot of people give these scam artists.

Pikuach nefesh,Maaser money,Eliyahu Hanavu? are you people RETARDED? I like mentioned before in the Bukharian killing story. Whether they are Russians,or Moldovian,or gypsys. Send em the hell back to where they came from. They are worse than the Heimishe,or Israeli collectors. They are ALL scammers. And as far as collectors go in general, like my friend mentioned, you have to be a certain type of personality,to go collecting. The average yid,(i think)isnt the type to lower himself, and lose his self respect and go pan handling. unfortunately in todays world it has become so popular in our neighborhoods to pan handle, that it seems normal,to do so. When in reality, its an embarrsement. Who wants to work, when some of these panhandlers make more(un taxable)money than a regular worker.

why is this pikuah nefesh? as long as you are not sure about their situation - you have to help. this is a safek nefashot. and to dress up like they were Jewish, yes, that's a scam, but would they get money without that dress? and would you employ them in your company so that they can make a living without asking for money on the street?

Go ahead and give them your money. They are laughing at you all the way to the bank!

So let them laugh, it's fine with me that way...

mee keamchu yisroel.what an honor,to have them WANT to scam us because they know we are rachmonim benei rachmonim. And for my quarter,I say gezunterheit
