Mordechai Ben David throws a fit

Watch the video clip of Mordechai Ben David throwing a fit about copying music and how it is nebech bankrupting the almost non-existent Jewish music industry. The gevaldige Hollywood like production was included on his new CD 'Efsher L'Takken'. If you look real closely at the clip you can almost see him cry about the extra millions that he could be making.

Watch the clip - High quality

Watch the clip - medium quality

Watch clip - low quality

Comments:
Nebach, I'm crying a river, what a patronizing jerk.

"throwing a fit" because not enough yidden follow halacha

Poor guy he will have to give up Porche and drive a Hummer

I wonder if the guy actually declares a nickel to the IRs of his real earnings before he cries to us about his lost cash hes making.

Like he is threatening us into not making new tapes.

Hes old and washup he needs a vacation for a few years.

If he declares to the IRS his income then ill stop copying his tapes.

All his cash hi charges for wedding etc. goes into his Pocket and not to the US Govt to help our soldiers fight the war!!!!!!!!!!!

he is so right i dont see a tantrum ho spoke to the point

There are so many people like you out there who can't begrudge anyone the money they earn.

Is it his fault that you're a bunch of losers who have time to be online all day and therefore can't earn a decent living? Go get a real job.

As far as how he spends his money - did he ever tell you how to spend yours?

BTW when was the last time you saw him sing at a wedding? And how much money are you spending (forget about how much thought) on helping our soldiers? All of the sudden so patriotic.

Halacha cannot be molded to fit your lifestyle and your actions. There are halachos about stealing and this is one of them.

He never sings at weddings.

All the cash YOU earn also has a right to end up in YOUR pocket.

Remember he's EARNING the money, not STEALING. He's providing a service and charging his fee. What's wrong with that?

He may be getting older, like we all hope to, gezunterheit.

This tape happens to be FABUTASTICAL.

Some people just can't fargin.

All you guys are a bunch of jelous pigs.
Why is he not entitled to make money off of his work? If you don't like his price or service...then DONT BUY THE CD!
Did you ever walk into a shoe store and have the salseman tell you the the shoes are $500, and tell him he is a ganev and just take the shoes and walk out of the store?
No. You would never do that.
The same thing is here.
If you don't like MBD, and don't like the price, then DONT BUY/STEAL/LISTen to it.

Thank you,
YW Editor.

And btw i duno if u watched a different video but he looked perfectly calm to me!

maybe he should steal a broadway show tune and make a song how he is getting robbed.

mein kup is all laidig, ich hub geveine azoi shleferig, ken isht machen a naih zemmer ken isht bazullin mein bills.

he stole at least 3 songs, never gave any credit to anyone, pretended they were his, got busted, never apologized, got into family "trouble" in Israel, knows tons of shady chaseedish people always in "trouble", then puts out a CD and lectures us on morals?

Yes its wrong to steal. I think people are upset by the man telling them its wrong, not the message being given.

Mordechai Ben David is 100% right. As a great star in the Jewish music world he has a responsibility to do this. With all the technology out there many people are copying music without actually purchasing it-and that's downright stealing. As for Chaptzem's hyped claim that he seemed frazzled during the video clip...that's purely false! He was calm, cool, and collected. SHAME ON YOU CHAPTZEM!

if there is so much tecno stuff out there why dont the rebbes make better children to take their places when they die or better yet lets scan the rebbe and he will always be copied and pasted.

MBD's "family trouble in israel" has nothing what so ever to do with him. A member of his family did something awful. While I am sure that MBD is embarased of it, he did not do it himself, so why do you bring it up here? You are attacking his family because he raises avalid point. shame on you.

Mordechai Ben David throws a fit? this headline is shameful and deceiving

That family member who did something "awful" is the one who produced this CD, how can you listen to a CD produced by a guy who by your own admition did something "awful"

The people here getting bent out of shape haven't yet addressed the issue that the main concern here is not if its ok to steal. OF COURSE its wrong to steal, the problem people have is a person who has never owned up to one mistakes is the wrong person to lecture us on something like this.

This message should have been delivered by someone who has some more street cred with the people.

One last thing, I do think he looks frazzled in the video. Like he is "calmly" rebuking us. Like a father about to lose it with a child. Maybe he should have tried this type of tactic on that "family member" who did something "awful"

Whats Yeeedle gonna do if Daddy is not rolling in the Dough$$$??

UR SUCH BASTARDS
UR FOREVER CRITICISING - FIRST LIPA AND NOW MBD. HEY LETS JUS NOT LISTEN TO JEWISH MUSIC... WILL U BE HAPPY THEN??

YES. I say we should just all be quiet! Enough already, the man is just trying to make Jewish music. Let's listen to his best song ever!!

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5329218840884525228

WOW, I never knew that "yidden" was stole off a guyishe niggun!! But that doesnt change the fact that MBD is right. He's trying to make some $$ and practically all poskim hold its stealing, which the last time I chacked, you burn in hell for.

THIS you call a tantrum??

If the tantrums I threw at my parents were like this, I wouldn't be worried about my olam habbah right now!

On a personal note, i have a relative who was in a lot of “tzaros” and MBD helped him tremulously he was of a great emotional support to him. So whether you like his music or not and whether you want to steal his music or not i could say from personal knowledge the guy is a Tzadik!
And to all the above if you steal(copy) it is your problem, but don’t go ahead and get upset if the owner tell you not to steal

So, MBD's not going to burn in Gehenim for stealing? OH .... of I forgot, it's not stealing if you stealing from non Jews. .... Stealing from the government or from non jews is just as horrible. In fact its WORSE, because it makes a disgusting chillel hashem. You drag Hashem's name through the mud when you hide your income, fail to report taxes, or have to bribe Israeli officials to cover "things" up.

When MBD apologizes for stealing the yidden song (and the other songs he stole) then I will show him some respect. Until then, go lecture your own people.

Mordechai Ben David is one smart fellow! He practically owns the Jewish music industry (even though Yaakov Shwekey thinks he's takin' over the reins). What's so bothersome about his remarks re stealing music? Perhaps CHAPTZEM has some sorta personal vendetta against him? Perhaps Mordechai's success is provoking CHAPTZEMS jealousy? Perhaps CHAPTZEM is just one big lame, insane, empty blog with nothing to offer?

Disgrace.

If he is losing so much money how did he afford to fly to mezibush? I don't see him filing for food stamps anytime soon .. oh wait ... check that.

In Yiddishkeit we don't hold of "practice what you preach".
If you have a message that is right, holds true according to Halacha and needs to be heard by the public, you have a RESPONSIBILITY to give it over. Even if you yourself are not the greatest man, or are guilty of many wrondoings, or guilty even of THAT VERY WRONGDOING that your are speaking about.
Of course if one does practice what he preaches the message will be accepted by the people more than if one doesn't practice it.
My point; what MBD does or does not do, whether he himself steals or not, does not make the slightest difference to his message.
This concept should be applied to all areas of spreading the word of Hashem, though we must be careful when rebuking. If you know that your rebuking will not have an effect on the person one should not do it, but rather find another means of getting the message across. But If the rebuke will help, go ahead and do it. Not in a hateful way, but in a way that shows that you mean for the persons good.

We don't have to "practice what we preach?" Who made that up? I'd like to know if the Rabbi of your Shul was caught stealing from the shul bank account, would you tell me to listen to his divrei torah on shabbos anyway? No, you would fire him.

It may not be ok to steal from the shul just because your rabbi did, but don't tell me to respect him or how great he is because he is giving over a good message. A thief is still a thief even if he says one thing that happens to be right.

Other songs that were used are:

Bobby Vinton's Melody of Love as "Shir Hashalom"

Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Close Every Door" from "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" as "Lichtiger Shabbos."

In reponse to your questioning my comment on "practice what you preach", let me clarify. We don't hold you have to practice IN ORDER to preach. OF COURSE you must practice.
My main point is that we have to differentiate between the message and the messenger. The receiver of the message must take the message for what it is, not who is saying it. If Yaser Arafat said something we can learn from, we take the lesson, even though he is a murderer etc.
Differentiation is something kids can't do because their Sechel has not developed yet, I hope you have the brains to differentiate.

I, for one, applaud THE KING for standing up to many ganavim who steal music. Some do it unwillingly because they dont know that there is anything wrong with it and many do it even though they know its wrong. I fail to understand CHAPTZEM's explanation of the whole 'Gvul' issue.
I say this to MBD: Thank You and continue the great work that you do for all yidden. And thank you too to Yeedle for producing Efshar Letaken.
CHAPTZEM: Issue an apology as soon as you get outta Williamsburg.

I agree with Yakov.
And you anon pots - y shud MBD apologise for "stealing" a non Jewish song?? Ur all f*ckin mad! And look how many songs Lipa has ripped off - from Jewish songs even. So go blow and enjoy the music instead of criticizing. We all have to give din vecheshbon for OURSELVES!

YEH IF ANYONE IS WONDERIN WHY MOSHIACH ISNT IN A HURRY - READ THIS BLOG ITS A PERFECT EXAMPLE!!

Firstly, e/o should consult their posek b4 judging others and calling them THIEVES. now i hav some questions 4 u...
r u allowed 2 borrow a new cd? i'll listen 2 it 20 times, and then i won't buy it, even though i usually buy cd's. but e/o knows thats totaly allowed. wat if i buy a cd n then it gets scratched, am i allowed to make a copy of that cd? wat if i lose my cd, am i allowed to make a copy? now how about copying a cd for my car? or how about buying 1, and copying it onto your ipod? every rabbi will tell u s/t else. if u compare a cd to a slice of pizza then obviously if u want more than 1, u need to purchase more than 1. but a cd is different b/c i'm not taking a/t physical from u. also if u put out a cd, do u OWN the songs? could u stop people from singing YOUR songs? could u stop people from playing YOUR songs @ a wedding? so what exactly do u OWN in a song???
in my humble opinion, (i am not a posek), wat u OWN in a song/cd, is that no one is allowed to copy your cd and SELL it for $ thereby causing u a lose of $. to STEAL a cd would b to go to mbd's house and TAKE a cd from his closet. but i'm allowed to do watever i want w/ s/t i purchased. (i.e. i could buy a cd and smash it- wether mbd likes it or not). he cannot tell someone what to do w/ something they bought (i.e. not to smash it) unless he makes a T'NAIY, (stipulation).
if u wanna say mbd made a stipulation w/ every purchaser not to copy it, thats fine. But its a two way street. meaning mbd is saying "i am selling u this cd on condition u don't copy it" (now what if i break the stipulation?) "and if you do copy this cd, than the whole transaction is off. i'm not selling it 2 u". so if i went over to mbd and said that "i broke your stipulation (i copied ur cd), herse's your cd, n give me my $16.99 back, what would he say??? so basically, i don't think he likes this stipulation business too much!
so before u go around calling people thieves, maybe be "dan l'kaf z'chus" that their posek said it's fine. and it wouldn't be the biggest tradgedy if half the people who put out tapes would stop.
