If you want to know what is in his mind you should ask him.
I do not see what is so terrible about acting in a movie if it is a kosher movie with no immodest scenes. It would seem to be a decent and honest way to make a living. Perhaps he was trying to portray the chasidic lifestyle in a positive light and thereby create a Kiddush Hashem. Many people people who are unfamiliar with chasidim can have a negative view of them and even fear. Imagine what the impression a serious, stern faced, bearded, peios bedecked, long coat and streimel makes on someone from the outside. Chasidim could use some positive P.R.

Kol Hakavod on raising some very insightful questions. Too many of us are going through the motions only because we feel that we need to comform to the mainstream of our communities in order to be accepted. Some of us, however, need to be poresh min hatzibur in order to find their own identity and to be happy with their lives. Rather than ostrasize these people we should be mekarev them and hope that they will find a reason to be truly frum.

Just let the regressive Gedolim keep on imposing more ludicrous chumros. Then their activities are publicized in the NY Times and they become a laughing stock. No amount of positive P.R. will overcome such negative ridicule.
In a few decades the entire fundamentalist enterprise will collapse of its own ponderous idiocy. And it won't be a moment too soon.

This poor guy is going to live with regret for the rest of his life for turning down such an opportunity. What Jewish law would have forbid him from pursuing such a career? I could understand if the subject matter was contrary to Jewish beliefs but from what I understand it is not.

How would taking part in this movie mean that he does not love his wife, kids, community and religion?

There is no problem here. A frum guy gets a shomer shabbos job where he doesn't do anything that is prohibited. Ultimatley he would spend the money on his family, and donate money the the kahilla, and pay for his kids to get a good religious education. The question to explore is why the frum-akker mishugoim in the neighborhood are preventing good upstanding people from earning an honest living.

Why condemn a whole comunity because of one bad seed. There are thousands of great yingeleit learning or working who are real ehrlech. Lets not judge!!
This yingerman was one kid from an ultra frum family of 17 kids.
As you can see he is quite charming and just doesn't fit into his home or comunity.
He married an ultra orthodox girl who is also open minded.
This couple really do not belong in the comunity, yet they chose to stay where they are because aparently they need the warmth and connection which they get there.
It is their choice to go out to the goyishe world and have an acting career or stay where they are.....They chose the later..Good for them.

Thank you for bringing to the fore the idea that us FFB's - Frum From Births, are basically practicing our religion by rote and are not THINKING about being frum, just acting so. The fact that the frum are inculcated into the secular world, business wise and otherwise, unlike at other times in our history, contributes to this fact.

In general, the frum world does not take a liking to freedom of expression, albeit within the confines of Halacha, and creativity is greatly discouraged amongst our young people in favor of fitting into the mold. A kid who is different is scolded in yeshiva and told to act like everybody else. What a shame. I encourage my kids to be free to be expressive, because not doing so is asking for trouble later on.

To those who condemn "wmsbg" as farfrumt & a horrible place to live in - this guy had the option of continuing the act & moving out of this "farfrumte wmsbg" but he didn't - which shows you that Wmsbg is the greatest place to live in. By the way, the real estate in Wmsbg is one of the highest ones around. Kol Hakovod to wmsbg & all the "regressive" rabbonim & "ludicrous chumros" that control such tziluzte people & acts & ensure a holy frum community.

How come nobody mentioned the 19 year old Lakwood bucher who robbed a bank.
If this were a chasidishe Williamsburg Satmar bucher this blog would be full of coments about it.
Yes, we are proud to be farfrumt and ehrlech together with our Rabbeim. Basically all I can see is a whole bunch of jelous non hassidim.
Ask anybody who stayed in hospitals on Shabbos or Yom Tov who they rely on for food and chisik. All the so called farfrumte people you you all love to bash and belittle.

You didn't talk to him yet you purport to analyze him.

This is not journalism; this is B.S.

What a ridiculous article. One man is doing nothing more than trying to express himself creatively - he's not doing anything contrary to Jewish law - the scene with the hand holding was even taken out - and the author of this article sees it as part of a larger problem of going through the motions. How stupid. Creativity should not be stifled the way it is in frum communities. It leads to other problems.

Everyone is asking the same questons but no-one answers, what did he do wrong.from what i read about the film it was suppose to be a clean.and the "Chasidic Actor" said that he would not do anything that is against halacha. which in a interview, he said that he would not touch any women or anything else that would go against his religion.so please some1, wat was wrong with him being a actor in a day and age that it is so hard to make a living without doing anything wrong.

Why is the rabbanim's outrage not directed toward our leaders that get caught doing money laundering (a.k.a Spinka) and other acts of misguided yiddishkite? They do a lot more damage as role models and to the image of FFB Jew than this guy who at the very least is earning an honest salary.

The only way people in Wmsbg could stay unexposed and farfrumt is by not mingeling with the goiuosje world. Tv and movies are orbidden in the ultra orthodox comunity.
By having a acting career and being in close proximity with a woren other than their wives these yingelait are putting themselves at risk of falling in love with other women.
Lets face it, havomg a farfrumt wife with a shpitsel at night and working by day with these glamorous actresses can never work.
Don't many actors and actresses fall in love with their co-actors.
As a non hassid I can understand this.
The rabbis as well as parents in williamsburg do not want this to happen.
Interacting with the goyishe world an especially the opposite sex is a real NO NO...

The system is broke. the day they will realize that will be to late.

it is a busha on the frum coommunity! if we supplied an outlet for such talent and kosher entertainment, our children wouldn't turn to the goim for these things! obviously we dont sattisfy the needs of the younger generation.
