Letter from father of Lakewood overdose bochur, Shua Finkelstein

Here is a letter sent to us by someone who identifies himself as being the father of the Lakewood bochur Shua Finkelstein, who overdosed on drugs last week.

From Abba (Shua's father),

Yes our son left us with broken hearts and shattered dreams of making his wedding, holding his children and enjoying and crying with him in his successes and disappointments. But one thing is clear Shua only wrote this letter and other letters after he felt strong enough to take on this cause for the innocent children who are abused, in addition to many other causes he was working on. Shua was in process of starting a recovery house for lost children from his neighborhood and was setting up counseling and paying for it from his own money. Shua was also helping kids find jobs and encouraging them to hold on to them and help build their character. Shua was also planning to announce his engagement to the beautiful love of his life, which he made clear he wanted to do only when he was sure he had beaten the disease. I know Shua hopes and will be happy for anything we can do to help each other and ourselves. I love you my son and spilling many tears but grateful for the twenty years that Hashem let me have you.

Comments:
Wow, You bring tears to my eyes. A parent who loved his child unconditionally. Not because of anything or anyones approval only because you are you. I am sure that whatever it was that, this special son came down to complete in this world, it was only because he had such parents. May we all learn to love our children for who they are. I am sure that he will pray in heaven for your family and I hope for us all. May Hasham give you peace and strength always.

Can you explain a little - if he was so strong and recovered and about to get engaged and help others - WHAT HAPPENED?????? a relapse? This shows that no matter how far you come in this disease - it can come back at anytime - anywhere. It is a disease that doesn't leave if you let down your guard it sneaks right back in

all i can Nebach

addiction can be put into remission but never cured. his demons got to him. like his father said, when he was ready and thought he had kicked it he would propose... obviously he hadnt kicked it!!!!
