I have been following this case with interest. I am not familiar with any of the parties involved, but I heard that his own nephews reported him to the authorities and testified against him. Of course these nephews are prominent and wealthy members of the Williamsburgh community, and where are their Rabbonim at a time like this? Forget about the Chillul Hashem, where is humanity?

Eight years in a row with no tax increase.
Yes, the village is raising its tax levy – the total amount it collects from property owners to support its spending. That figure will go up by 7.7 percent to roughly $1.4 million in the fiscal year beginning on June 1.
But the tax base has widened at a comparable rate over the last year, largely because of the relentless housing construction. That means the tax rate will remain at an unusually low $14.14 per $1,000 of assessed value.
But what about all the big capital projects completed or started since the last tax hike – the sewage treatment plant, the fire station, the chicken slaughterhouse, the convalescence center for mothers? Or the trucks and equipment for the sanitation and fire departments formed since taxes last rose?
Or, for that matter, the money spent so far on engineers and lawyers to plan and defend the village's proposed $21 million water hookup to the Catskill Aqueduct?
The simplest explanation appears to be government grants, which have helped pay for several of the capital projects, and municipal bonds – the usual way to space out large costs over a number of years.
Kiryas Joel Administrator Gedalye Szegedin explained this week that his village, like other municipalities, accounts for its capital spending outside its operating budget, so that a $21 million water project wouldn't suddenly crank up spending and taxes.
However the accounting was done, the bottom line remains: The tax rate is $14.14. Again.

Garson is charged with Second-Degree Grand Larceny, First-Degree Offering a False Instrument for Filing, and two counts of Second-Degree Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument. If convicted he faces up to 15 years in prison.

The information leading to the investigation and indictment of Michael Garson was obtained in the investigation of his cousin, ex-Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Gerald Garson, who is currently awaiting trial on charges he accepted bribes.

The indictment alleges that in 1997 Michael, Gerald, and Robin Garson – Gerald’s wife, who later became a Civil Court Judge in Brooklyn – took control of Gershenoff’s assets, as the result of obtaining power of attorney. Michael was primarily responsible for her finances and Robin took care of her medical needs. By December 2000, Gershenoff began to suspect that Michael had stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars from her savings.

Gershenoff, now 94, met with a lawyer and revoked the power of attorney she had given to the Garsons.

Subsequently, the Garsons commenced judicial proceedings to have Gershenoff declared mentally incompetent to have made that decision.

The Manhattan Supreme Court Justice hearing that case appointed an independent evaluator to prepare a report on Gershenoff’s competency and needs. The investigator, while collecting information for the report, obtained, from Michael Garson, a document granting him power of attorney over Gershenoff’s assets. However, the indictment charges that the document was forged, and that is the basis for the charges of First-Degree Offering a False Instrument for Filing and Possession of a Forged Instrument.

Toward the end of 2003, Garson was ordered to account for the money he claimed to have spent on Gershenoff’s needs or to pay it back. Woman calls police, goes to jail

A Decatur, Alabama woman called police to say that someone had broken into her home.

When officers arrived to check things out, they searched her home. Inside, police found a stolen .38 caliber revolver, crack cocaine and powder cocaine.

Needless to say, the woman who called police ended up getting arrested.

 

Crooks return to crime scene to ask directions out of town

A young man walked into a Chevron station in Poulsbo, Washington at 2:15 in the morning on December 25. According to Poulsboro police, the man brandished a butterfly knife and threatened to kill the employees if they didn't give him money. Despite the threat, one of the employees dialed 911.

“He got mad and knocked all the stuff off the counter and left,” Poulsbo Police Sgt. Bill Playter said of the would-be robber, noting that he fled the scene in a red 1999 Honda Accord, along with his get-away driver.

About an hour and a half later, Chevron employees again dialed 911 as the red Honda once again pulled into the parking lot. the suspects had returned — this time to ask directions out of town.

“I guess they got lost,” Poulsbo Police Sgt. Bill Playter surmised. “They’re not the brightest bulbs in the closet.”

The two once again left the scene and were apprehended by sheriff’s deputies and Poulsbo police officer Daniel LaFrance. The suspects not only admitted to the attempted robbery but a burglary they committed at Blockbuster Video earlier that night.

A search of the car yielded the knife and more than 30 video games. The two suspects were arrested on charges of second degree burglary and first degree robbery. Bail has been set at $250,000 each.

I WAS READING THE GOVERMENT CONVICTIONS AGAINST NAFTOLI ..ITS A LONG LIST OF OVER 30 CHARGES . 21 CHARGES FOR MONEY LAUNDERING THRU SWISS BANKS, HE GOT CAUGHT LAUNDERING CLOSE TO $41 MILLION ( SOME WERE DRUG RELATED) 9 CHARGES OF FALSE INSURANCE CLAIMS AND 2 ARSON CHARGES.

 

if all the convictions will stand ,,assuming that the appeals court will not overturn his convictions , he stands to get about 10 years as per the guidlines

 

i was in court yesterday for the hearings, and i will say this it appaled me on how hostile reb naftoli and his kids , particulary shumuli his son from monsey were against the judge and the court officers, cursing them ect. it doesent do any good , you cant fight goverment. it was obvious that the judge was angry on naftoli for this , he didnt even want to listen to anything, fighting and cursing the judge and the courts openly is a big chilul hashem and very very foolish. it was very obvious yesterday that the judge was so angry about this all he did was give a long drashe that he will show who is boss in court not the otherway around

Unbelievable! I just heard from someone who was at the hearing yesterday and i asked him about what i read here that Naftulie and sons cursed the judge and that the judge was yelling at them etc.

He was so shocked to hear this and said that all these fabricated lies come from those Mosrim! nobody cursed the judge or yelled at court marshals the whole thing has no truth in it whatsoever!! all he told me is that Naftulie`s son left the courtroom and the door banged when it closed so the judge told the court officer to tell him that if it happens again we will not be allowed back in the courtroom altough the judge didn`t see who the oerson was that left the courtroom, he was just angered by the noise when the door was shut, this is the only thing that happened, and he told me that these MOSRIM are starting to feel the heat big time, especially that the courtroom was packed and everyone heard the judge saying that the whole case is based on the wittnesses Victor S. and Israel Schwimmer, and only because of these "RESHOIM" he was convicted and put in jail etc..
