At least the Catholic Church has had the courage to stand up and remove all priests who have a history of abuse or a temptation to abuse from any form of service with children. They've taken the "black eye" for many years willingly to protect their youth, and have - at least on paper - a "no tolerance policy". I don't know anything about this Yeshiva or this Rav, but where such things do happen, let's see our frum institutions have the same courage

 

It is loshon hora cause its absolutly not true! someone is upset at rabbo kolko and want to spread rumors on him so this is what he did, which is terrible...

There is a chronic child molester in our midst. No, he is not
in hiding nor is he being kept away from our children.
Shockingly, he is a Rebbe in Yeshiva Torah Temima.
Rabbi Lipa Margolies knows of this Rebbe’s history of
sexually molesting children.
Rabbi Lipa Margolies refuses to remove this predator from his yeshiva.
Specifically, Rabbi Lipa Margolies has been repeatedly informed, from sources
independent of each other, that Rabbi Yidi Kolko has sexually molested
countless children during his long career around children.

Rabbi Yidi Kolko sexually molested children in Camp Agudah. Rabbi Yidi Kolko sexually molested children in Yeshiva Karlin Stolin. Rabbi Yidi Kolko sexually molested children in Camp MaNaVu. Rabbi Yidi Kolko spends his life around our children. It bears repeating that Rabbi Yidi Kolko is a Rebbe in Yeshiva Torah Temima.

We have a problem. This is not to say that our wonderful community has a
greater percentage of child molesters than other communities. We may even
have substantially less. Our problem is in our unwillingness to deal with this
horrendous problem. Child molesters must be removed from our midst. Our
children must not be subjected to them. Rabbi Lipa Margolies must stop his
unconscionable covering up of this problem and Rabbi Yidi Kolko must resign his position immediately.

We will not rest until our children are safe from this
scourge.The next move is going to be the mass media. You think your a Knocker?, not to the newspapers and the TV media.

We are writing to ask that you speak out and help bring an end to this problem.
Child molesters must be kept away from our children.
Our children deserve no less.

just because one person posts a letter anonymously on an Internet blog claiming to have sent the Yehsiva a letter with an accusation means the Yeshiva has to act on it? Maybe it is true but maybe not?
Why should we automatically take the accuser side in this? If he has so much proof, let him go to the police? If Kolko is really a child molester, why is it enough to get him fired from the Yeshiva - he should be arrested? Let him go to the police with his proofs?

 

Rafi: Are you suggesting we are better off having a Rebbi taken away in handcuffs than having the situation dealt with within the community?

 

The starting point in analyzing this situation from a Torahdike point of view is the well known psak that a child molester has a Din Rodef.

“Viailoo Shematzilin Oisum Binafshum Harodef Achar Hazochor.”

The Din Rodef is not a Din in Bais Din but a Mitzvah Al Kol Yisroel to be Matzil the Nirduf Bnafshi Shel Rodef.

Obviously this Psak only applies to someone who is actively molesting children. The Kolko defenders argue that notwithstanding his past conduct, to their knowledge he hasn’t molested anybody recently. However, the question as to whether he constitutes a danger to children is clearly not resolved. Kolko has clearly lost his Chezkas Kashrus by virtue of his past conduct and based on medical knowledge of recidivist behavior among child molesters he poses a present danger to children.

Some talk about Teshuvah. However, when it comes to Bain Odom Lechaveiro there is no Teshuvah, Ad Sheyaratzeh Es Chaveiro. There can be no talk of Mechilah until Kolko compensates all of his victims in full. He’s never even tried. And for good reason. “Hachovel Bechaveiru Chayiv Bechameesha Devarim: Nezek, Tzaar, Reepoi, Sheves and Boishes.”

Kolko's defenders cry Loshon Horoh. The issur of Loshon Horoh has no application here whatsoever since Loshon Horoh is clearly Muttar Litoyeles. There is no greater Toeles then saving Jewish children from abuse. Not only is it Muttar it is an absolute Chiyuv Al Kol Yisroel, Lhatzil Es Hanirdofim – our defenseless Jewish children.

In fact, anybody who does not do everything in their power in this situation to save our children is over a Lav Doraysa of Lo Saamod Al Dam Reyacha. This includes spending your own resources to save another jew.

They who sit idly by are also being Mivatel the Mitzvah of Ubearta Hara Mikirbecha which is an absolute Chiyuv Al Kol Yisroel to remove evil from our midst. There can be no greater evil than a man who has been Mazik the Goofim and Rachmana Litzlan the Neshomos of hundreds of Yiddeshe Kinderlech, Hashem Yishmireinu.

As the Posuk says by Shimon and Levi’s killing of Shechem “Ki Nevulu Usisa Biyosroel Vichain Lo Yaoseh.” Those who would keep Kolko in a position to be further Mazik children are being Machzik Yidei Ovrei Aveirah and are Oiver the Lav of Lifnei Eevair Lo Seetain Michshol.

They are also Oiver the Lav of Lo Sosim Domim Bivaisecha, which applies to any Davar Shel Sakana. There is no greater Sakana then keeping a child molester around children.

The claim that this matter has not been well known is utter nonesense. The accusations against this man are the biggest Kolo Diloi Posik for over thirty years and there are Kamah Eidim to his Nevulos.

The people who are trying to save our children from this evil should be lauded like the true Kanoim in the Torah who took action while everybody else cried. They cried because Nisalmoh Meiham Halachoh.

When it comes to the problem of molestation it appears that we suffer from a collective Nisalmoh Mee Menu Halacha.

How can Torah be learned Kitzurosoh in a Mossad that harbors such a Menuval.

The true Roshei Yeshivah, Rabbeim and Bnai Torah in Yeshivah Torah Temimah should stand up as one and say Tzai Tumai, go out from among us unclean one so we can learn Torah Al Taharas Hakodesh and not be compared Chas Visholom to a Toivel Visheretz Biyodo.

just think, we are believing one guy who claims HE knows and HE says kolko admitted it and than HE will deal with this situation the way HE feels like.

Typically Lubavitch in its response. They use the same "defense" whenever they are caught, in Kashruth, behavior , halacah, and even basic Yiddishkiet. Remember a personage of no less standing than the Stiepler A{H said that Lubavitch was the closest relgion to Yiddishkiet, and now they have added "Waiting for the resurection" as believed by another sect of former yidden, (Hamaven Uvin)

 

In response to many of the letters. it is Lashon Horah ONLY IF IT IS TRUE, otherwise it is Motze Shem Ra, but this is a matter of Pikuach Nafesh that effect not only this Do'or but future do'ors as well. If the Yeshiva has investigated let them publish their results. Thier silence is the greatest reason to be concerned and because it deals with Pikuach Nefesh it is an OBLIGATIOn to publicize the suspcion/

 

Well i think that since there has been nonstop talk about this issue over here it is not anymore a secret and we have done the job for them to publicize it.

The claims in the original letter and any others that followed are worthless, unless the poster/sender can produce a letter/Ketav from a qualified Rav or Beis Din. Without such a letter, all of this should be considered pure RUMOR and "Hotzas Shem Ra" on another Jew.

 

I love the "let the community deal with it", that is precisely the problem, the community does not deal with anything anymore these days, we are chitzonius (outward appearance) people these days, If it is true and report it you will probably be threatened etc..unfortunately there there is NO leadership these days, if you do try to do the right thing, you probably get threatened, broken windows, car etc. Yes I know people its happened to, and there is NO one in this chushiva community to talk to.

If it was true and the victim and family would report it to the officials, they would be accused of not going to the community, beis din etc. and be threatened, if they would go to the community/beis din it will not be dealt with...I have a friend who just had to deal with a different issue and he went to the local Chusheve Ehrlich Fruma Flatbusha Rabonim that are makpid on every little detail in their daily lives he got a big eye blank stare, and they all stood by while his family suffered.

what you say is all true and it might be a no win situation, but how in heavens name does that give us the right to believe someone that refuses to say who he is.

I find it funny that they are screaming Lashon Hora, as any child will tell you Lashon Hora is only when it is TRUE!!! and as mentioned above, it is muttar for toeles.

In this weeks parsha the Torah teaches us;

“Vichee Yuzid Ish Al Rayahoo Lhurgi B’urmah, Maim Mizbichi Teekuchenu Lumoos.”

The point of “Maim Mizbichee,” is that even if he is a Cohen doing the Avodah he is not Putoor for punishment for his sins. Nor does Halacha recognize a time limitation which would allow the passage of time to blunt the impact of these issues.

The vilification of accusers by the accused is nothing new.

When we see agents of a Torah instution, rather than seeking the truth or justice, engaging in vindictive and vicious conduct, seeking to destroy more lives, attempting to sully the victims and bury the truth; we understand what the Zohar is talking about.

“Uz Nidbiroo Yiraai Hashem Ish El Rayaahoo Vayakshev Hashem Vayishma.”

Anybody who has true Yiraas Shomayim in his heart needs to step back and ask themselves “Haker Nu Limee Hochosemes Ulimee Hapseelim,” who is right and who is wrong. The victims, or the aggressor and his protectors. The sounds we are hearing today are the “Kol Dimai Acheecha Tzoakim Ailai Min Haadamah.”

Rather than engaging in unseemly attempts to silence these voices, we should unite to confront this problem head on. These voices will not be stilled and will not go away.

 

I can tell you, as a social worker, that when it comes to abuse, the abuser is guilty until proven innocent (the reverse of American law), according to ACS (child welfare). That is, when a mandated reporter, the abused, or in fact anyone else suspects abuse, an investigation MUST be conducted. Mandated reporters (and that includes ANYONE who works professionally with children, e.g. teachers, rebbeim, doctors, mental health professionals, you know who you are) can lose their licenses if they become aware of abuse and don't report it.
If any of you people, who are defending the accused, would be told that there's a slight chance that there's poison in a food you're about to serve your child, would you still give it to him/her?
I'm also curious as to whether TT parents are withdrawing their children, or if others are registering their kids.
Why do we allow ourselves to behave like Muslim fundamentalists, and keep our mouths shut because we fear retribution and problems with shidduchim? Aren't our children worth more than that to us?

Thus, the Jewish Press excoriates the methods used to expose a child molester while remaining silent about the underlying issue.

Will the Jewish Press have anything to say after Kolko is proven guilty? Time will tell.

For the past thirty five years I have been covering up the fact that Yidi Kolko has been molesting students in Yeshiva Torah Temimah. I do not understand what all the fuss is about. Yidi Kolko is a fine Rebbi and as we know no one is perfect. Why is everyone focused on the fact that he is a child molester? Focus on the good, not the bad. So, he ruined some lives, big deal. I have a psak din from a gadol that we must continue to ignore Yidi’s use of your children for his recreation. It is his right as a Rebbi. The gadol explains that since he dedicates his life to your children, the least you can do is allow him to have his way with them. It is your duty to keep him calm and happy.

I commend your blog and everyone else's. I have been trying to get in touch with other Baltimoreans who suffered child abuse. I suffered some sexual abuse though not to the extent that I am reading about, Baruch Hashem. Hatzlocha Rabba, you are doing a great chesed for other Jews.
