Anybody who knows ANYTHING about those that succeed in politics and at other powerful positions (such as those that were on the dais that evening), knows that it was more than hard work that got them there. It was not WHAT you know, but WHO you know and who, by luck or connections found FAVOR in the eyes of those above them. With few exceptions!!!!!!!!, money changed hands (especially in the case of politics), behind closed doors, and lots of it. Honest, nice guys, who don't want to play with impropriety, hamaivin yavin, even with top college degrees and resumes and top reputations, didn't make it to the dais, because more often than not, they don't make it to the top of their fields!

Emes and the Law- is as humorous as the pic below it of Gibson with a beard and chassidish hat! There is very little Emes in the practice of Law/politics!
