The point is NOT to boycott all German products. The point is, is that Mercedes more than any other German company is the company that people automatically associate with Nazi Germany.

I agree with the writer of the original comment. Yes, there are many other products that are made in Germany, and yes, if you want to boycott Germany there are many things we can look at, but C'mon! Mercedes is the epitome of Germany. It's just somethings that's an unspoken & understood thing. People stayed away from Mercedes for years! Now it's seems that people are slowly forgetting.
Interestingly enough, just yesterday I had the same thought as I saw a Chasiddeshe family in a brand new Mercedes SUV. It really bothered me. I think it is very hypocritical to criticize people for driving a Mercedes while at the same time we have no problem making challos with a "bosch" mixer or buying any other of the multitude of German made products. Considering that Mercedes is "half" american these days, I think it is much less of an issue than any of the other "wholly" German owned companies. Ford had to pay restitution for utilizing slave labor in it's European plants during WW II and no one seems to mind driving a Taurus or windstar.I think the whole "German Car" phenominan was born out of jealousy, people that couldn't afford to drive one, justified their not having one by saying " i vood never drive a goiman car"

Oy, I can't find it now, somewhere recently (well, maybe a few months ago) somebody posted a link to a very funny video about how you shouldn't buy from many famous American companies because of their collaboration with the nazis y"msh. Although I pretty much agree with chaptzem.

I don't understand what the issue here is. If you read any automotive journals out there, without a doubt they'll say the best cars in the world are made by Lexus (Toyota). In 2000, I bought a used '94 Lexus LS400 with 153,000 miles on it. I now have close to 222,000 on it and it has been the best car I've ever had! I would still buy a high mileage used Lexus than any other car out there wether its a new Mercedes or otherwise. In my opinion, if you are stupid enough to pay thru the nose for a German status symbol, then you are stupid enough to be an insensitive ba'al Geivah!
