FIGHT FOR YESHIVA TUITION BREAKS - YOU MUST ACT NOW
One sixty second phone call to this toll-free number could save our community millions of dollars: (800) 319 - 3403.
With just two weeks left in the Legislative session in Albany, now is the time to act to help families who are struggling to pay yeshiva tuition. Assemblyman Vito Lopez & Senator Marty Golden have introduced legislation that would allow middle-class parents to deduct the cost of private school tuition from their state taxes and poor families would receive an actual tax credit. This could save average families in our community thousands of dollars each year.
But we must ACT NOW. The legislative session in Albany ends June 21st
Please call Governor Spitzer's office today at (800) 319 - 3403.
If you speak with a live operator, please tell them:
"I'm calling to ask the Governor to support the Lopez-Golden Tuition Tax Deduction Bill."
If you reach a voice mailbox, DO NOT HANG UP. Each message is logged and counts!
After the tone, leave the same message along with your zip code:
"I am calling to ask the Governor to support the Lopez-Golden Tuition Tax Deduction Bill. My zip code is XXXXX."
Governor Spitzer has the ability to get this done. But he must hear from you and everyone you know.
It's a simple call (800) 319 - 3403.
Every single call made to the Governor is logged and will make a difference!

Comments:
another issue is what these yeshivahs are charging for tuition. my neighbor is paying almost 40k to send 3 bocherim to a yeshivah which shall remain nameless. that is outragous!!
s what's the real deal here?
what do they consider to be middle class?
if i make 120g a year and have 6 kids in school. do i get anything from it?
if not?
does that mean that the school can now be tovea me to pay more .. cause even the poorer people are now paying more?
WHY IS THIS GOOD?

The highest tax bracket person will get only 5%. The typical parent with lots of kids will get get next to nothing. DO THE MATH!!
What it will do is hand the Yeshivas another excuse to raise tuition thus saving the parents nothing.

They ask for your zip- they're keeping a record for some reason.
Can we determine if it's definitely in our interest, please.

THE real problem in yeshiva tuition in the schools they cram 30 + kids in a class that 180,000 of tuition!! where is that money going plus they get donations , make dinners etc... if i am paying my hard earned money to these school,i think i have the right to see where the money goes to!
why should non-Jewish or non-frum taxpayers support the yeshivas? What's to stop every other religion from wanting the same break, and you'd then have Jews supporting madrassas
You can email the Governor by going to WWW.NY.GOV and click on Governor Spitzer, choose "email the governor" and fill in the blanks. Very easy.
As far as I can see, America is naught but a conglomeration of partisan political pundits, were one can not find anywhere the voice of plain logic. It seems that everyone in full possession of that faculty just sit on the sidelines and watch the comedy.
Anyone vaguely familiar with the history of the American revolution is aware an injustice - "taxation without representation" which raised a whole nation of farmers to bear arms. The term can be directly applied to the practice of taxing people for tuition, and then depriving them of the education of their choosing. The fact that free public secular education is available has no practical bearing for religious people; the classical method for government to perpetrate injustice is to offer a theoretic solution with no practical application other than absolving it's authors of whatever mischief they have done. If you are concerned about sponsoring madrassas bear in mind that you are not sponsoring it; even if you are as racist as me towards arabs you still can not condone defrauding them of tax money they paid. I consider them a bunch of deadbeats but I am sure that at least 80% of them pay taxes.
Concerns about school vouchers being used to just raise tuitions are valid, but the solution is just as obvious. Private institutions receiving such vouchers would be required to use the same standards a public schools; namely being not for profit and having capped wages. No institution is going to charge people for money they can't use.
Lastly I referred earlier to general society being one general comedy. It definitely is to see the silence of the lambs as their money is being stolen. If you only read about that in the bible about the tribes of the east plundering the corn of the Israelites, you'd better wake up and smell the coffee. If you pay tax for tuition but do not receive it, you are being ROBBED, plain and simple.
It is incredulous to watch so many people being robbed as a matter of course and being unable to do anything about it. If I would be a congress or assemblyman I wouldn't feel to pressured about this issue - if people aren't savvy enough to even hold a demonstration against being extorted chances are they are probably to stupid to even vote based on it.
I currently don't have kids to gripe about their tuition, but if I were being screwed like the rest of you, I would definitely lead a civil campaign against, or if I feel to lazy for so much organizational work, I'd probably just go and rob a bank.
