Cancellation of 'Big Event' becomes a big event

It was going to be the biggest night of Lipa Shmeltzer's musical career.

The venue was reserved months in advance, thousands of tickets were sold, and hundreds of thousands of dollars had been funneled into organizing what would have been the largest haredi music performance yet.

The "Big Event," scheduled to take place on March 9 was to feature the popular haredi performer live at Madison Square Gardens singing hits from albums such as "Gam Zu Letovah" (This, too, is for the best) or the more recent "Lipa Baderech" (Lipa on the way).

Shmeltzer's albums have gained tremendous popularity within the American Hasidic community due in part to his innovations in fusing traditional Hasidic music with contemporary music styles. But for that very reason his
music has also been criticized and rejected by more conservative elements in the community. Some say he relies too much on the outside world for inspiration, others suggest his music pokes fun at haredi life. But above all haredim are fundamentally suspicious of entertainment for its own sake, because it goes against the very essence of what it means to be haredi.

Rabbis were consulted, and preparations were made to ensure the event was "kosher." Attendees were guaranteed exclusively separate seating for men and women. And the intermission was nixed to avoid unwanted mingling between the sexes.

But despite these precautions, just weeks before the event, two community leaders who oppose this kind of entertainment, Asher Friedman and Avraham
Shor began circulating a petition to ban the event for "lightheartedness" and "immorality." In the end 33 rabbis stunned the public with an announcement, published Feb. 20 in the religious daily Hamodia, prohibiting the concert.

YOU WRITE LIKE A NAZI OR AT LEAST LIKE AN ANTI SEMITE.

Are there no Rabbonim of high caliber in the frum velt with the courage to stand up and say this ban was nonsense and to censure Rav Avroham Shor and Asher Freidman for being overzealous zealots. This is not the first incident of Kana-us that has been orchestrated by Rabbi Shor. He is indeed a dangerous man as has been evidenced by prior statements and actions he has said and taken in previous incidents. I am reminded of a quote from Rav Sholom Shvadron Zatzal in the name of his rebbe regarding the Maaseh with Pinchus " There is no difference between murder and true zealotry except for the width of a hair".

The Rabbi's need to get a life.
There are more important things
to be concerned about than
a concert.

Its ok . From what i hear there are currently several very powerful people who will be putting friedmn and and schor in thier places alright. If they are smart enough they sholud leave this country. Maybe he will still get to meet mondrowitz in mid air.
Also i just heard that Knoi Bloch from monsey maybe behind this ban too but i have not been able to verify it because he always lays low.

I am neither a Nazi or a anti Semite. I simply enjoy watching this community, which is stuck in the middle ages, self destruct.

I’m really proud how this ENTIRE matziv is being handled. B’h Klal Yisrael has been blessed with real Gedolei Torah who have guided us through turbulent times in golus.

WHERE WOULD WE BE WITH OUT OUR GEDOLIM AND RABONIM? (in MSG)

L’maysa the whole concert sounded like it was gonna be a huge party ***(WITH ABSOLUTLY NO BOUNDRIES)***

at M.S.G. rigt before purim,
THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT mordechai AND esther wanted us to take out of the story of PURIM.

I am sure everyone reading this comment will agree 100% Rabbi T.C.

I WISH THE RABONIM WOULD REALIZE THAT THE PEOPLE WHO GO TO THESE CONCERTS NEED AN OUTLET.
IF YOU WILL NOT ALLOW CONCERTS THEN THEY WILL GO TO MODONA OR MICHAEL JACKSON.
CELINE DION IS MAKING A CONCERT...
MAYBE THE RABONIM WILL ASSER IT TOO.

THE END IS NEAR: for does 2 so called askonim(ans another 3rd one) - they will be history shorly. Stay tuned in

I TIS TIME TO GET THOSE 33 RABBANIM AND THE 1000S OF OTHERS WHO LIVE IN THE TRI-STATE AREA TO PUT THOSE TWO OR THREE SO-CALLED ASKANIM INTO CHERIM, SO THEY CAN'T DO ANY MORE HARM!

wow, death threats against those rabanim. this is serious.

I read Rabbi Horowit's comments, as well as listened to all interviews, Lipa, Sheya, etc. All I have to say is this..we are our own worst enemy.
