Patent for method of manufacturing a Shtreimel by Armin Miller

Method of manufacturing a fur hat using tail fur.
Armin Miller, patent holder.
US Patent Dec 20 2005 Sheet 1 of 7

Comments:
posos a problem for other streimel machecrs

Shtreimlech is a L'vush that was introduced by previous tzadikim and it should not be made fun of and lets not forget one of the zchusim the yidden were released of mitzrayim SHELO SHINU LEVUSHOM

You mean they wore shreimels in Mitzraim?

i bet ya..

in mitzrayim nobody wore shtreimel

a minhag .. ok
lo shinu ???
dont be silly

all joking aside - is this guy trying to get a oatent on a standardized process and then demand royaltieds from all other manufacturers, claiming that all the ways to make it are the same. how many ways can you skin a cat?

i love the chasidim, they are proud with their way of life, and they mean business - they slowly became the big machers in every field while we sit and make jokes. (btw a shtreimel is not from a catzy)
go chasidim go
(the Golem)

After reading the patent, I find serious halachic problems with the methodolagy, specificaly the following:
13. The method of claim 10 further comprising:

attaching an elongate pouch to each said tongue centrally between said sides; and

inserting a thermoplastic stiffener in each said pouch.
14. The method of claim 13 further comprising:

IT IS WRONG TO DEVIATE FOR THE MESORA HANDED DOWN FROM MOSHE AT HAR SINAI. A PROPER SHTRIEMAL MUST BE MADE AS IT WAS IN THE TIME OF MOSHE RABAYNU. THE USE OF THERMOPLATIC IS AUSER.

a cat? now that is an idea for a shtreimel

Does his patent use a method that is different than what other shtreimel machers are doing? If not, then his patent is invalid, as he is using already known methods, and cannot demand royalties.

BTW, I have not heard that he actually requested royalties from anyone, so stop spreading lies.

This shtreimel situation is starting to get out of hand. It weighs a ton, so after wearing one for a half hour it normally results in a splitting headache. What's wrong with the shtreimlich our grandfathers wore in europe. (you know those really flat ones that weigh no more than a bag of feathers)
personnaly i come from a family that expects me to wear a shtreimil, and i can't just go out and buy those light ones for two reasons:
one: They are not sold anywhere
two: even if they were, I probably wouldn't be able to marry off my children do to the fact that everyone will think I am crazy. And that's the problem with our society that we live in.
the only solution is for all of us to throw away these tall and heavy creations, and revert back to the real shtreimil.
