Fox 5 report on the Vizhnitzer Catering Hall in Boro-Park

This is the Fox 5 report that we posted about the taping a little while ago.

New York City leaders boast about how they aggressively crack down on "quality of life issues." But Fox 5 uncovered an interesting controversy in one Brooklyn neighborhood. Some residents in Borough Park say the city is simply afraid to deal with a nuisance that is ruining their lives. As Fox 5's John Deutzman reports, a situation with a catering hall seems to revolve around religion.

Comments:
mr Steinberger YEMACH SHMOI u caused the mosed over 2,000.000.0
0 already for lawyers, private sanitation, double in insurance because they can't get a C of O
also his old bachlor son is a musser as well

we live for our children and for their safety we will have the schools in our neighberhood and to support the school we will make our weddings there too so because u don't have grand kids or kids to enjoy then just sit a relax and shep NACHAS from others watching them going to school or just move away from there (i'm sure the school would buy your house from u for top dollar) by the way all the money & pain & time u caused the school you should know its "Hagdesh" money & god will never forgive u

i end with a Blessing to u
if u stop your stupid actions then "Hashem" will help u that your son should get married & have have grand children and they will go to this school then Hashem will send u Nachas & you will enjoy the school

Matt,

Get a grip, buddy.

First, the phrase "yemach shemo" is generally reserved for Hitler and other Nazis. For you to equate Steinberg with the Nazis is, to put it politely, ridiculous. It's also offensive to every other Jew.

Steinberg did not cause the expense of $2 million. What caused the expense is the breaking of the law. Read this last sentence a few times until you understand it.

If the organization cannot get a certificate of occupancy, it's not because of Steinberg, it's because their use does NOT conform to the Buildings Code.

Somehow in your writing, I sense some sort of Chelm-like logic that dictates it is okay to break the law, (notwithstanding the edict of "dinei d'malchusa k'dina") but if you get caught, curse another Jew.

This is an outrage!

Where in Halacha can you find authority to do break the laws concerning the following?

1. Double parking;

2. Parking on the sidewalk;

3. Obstructing the sidewalk;

4. Disturbing the peace;

5. Disordely conduct;

6. Playing amplified music in public especially at late hours?

NOTE: I said nothing about the operation of the catering hall. Just answer the above questions.

By the way, Matteleh, I had you in mind the other night. It was hours after the Megilah reading and I couldn't get to sleep? Why? Because at 2:45 in the morning, some people decided that their idea of "simchas Purim" was to make a tumult in the street. What a wonderful thing to do to your fellow Jew who has to be up at 6:00 A.M. to get to shul so he can hear the Megilah and get to work. Yes, "work," a strange concept I know but one that many of us keep.

It's nice of you to drop a couple of Yiddish and Hebrew words in your otherwise barely literate message, so please reconcile the following concepts with what is going on at the 53rd Street location:

1. Dinei d'malchusa k'dina;

2. V'ahavta l'reacha kamocha;

3. Mitzvah habah b'aveirah, ain bah mitzvah.

I'm waiting for your response.

On a personal note, as to your last paragraph, I'm wondering how you purport to know the will of Hakadosh Boruch Hu. Do you believe He has been sending you e-mail?

Perhaps you should not stop taking your meds.

I am a neighbor, and while this hall takes away from my time every single day in one way or another, Steinberg is certainly the only person fighting for this cause in such a deplorable manner.
The issur of messira does not apply only to when there is no nissayon; There is no hetter to go to the authorities under almost any circumstance. This hall is a traffic obstacle just like Chynka and Ateres Chaya, and should definitely be shut down. I would even go as far as saying that these Mosdos take advantage of the fact that almost nobody would dare stand up to them, especially not in such a way.

But this building and the CATRING HALL was all built according to law, with permits, filing, co, and recordings, they followed the rolls of building and zoning codes 100 percent. After 6 years of operating the building dept with pressure from I. Steinberg the neighbor (btw he works in the building dept for over 20 yrs……) revoked the co with an accuse that they never used before. And since then it’s in court. and because viznitz followed the law that’s why all the judges said it could still operate till the end of the hearings and that’s why NO JUDGE till now said any thing wrong about that hall they all say for the building dept, hey if u have a problem u should have said that in the beginning

To all people criticizing Viznitzer hall, you should know that it's the only nice decent hall that has rock bottom prices! they are here to serve the community, nod to make ends meet to finance that yiddishe kinder should be able to sit and learn in chaider.

I understand some neighbors have problems with parking, but, hey, the community needs it. No body wants to live near a fish store, but every neighborhood needs it, so the ones living nearby have to bear with the smell. I can talk, because I used to live near viznitz hall, and now live near some other hall.

Now about Stienberg, he's a real rachmanus, driven by hatred, he's out to destroy this mosdos, hall, shul, and chaider. always looking for what he can go masser that viznitz is not doing right, it has costed for viznitz already a few hundred thousand dollars, if not millions, to fight him in court.

I don't know if tshuva can still help him, but, god should have mercy on him and set him straight.

It's about time the community comes out against him, and mosrim like him, who knows what harm he is still eligible to do.

p.s. His son, the old bochur used to daven in the shul in viznitz before the whole parsha started, and even after that, he left on his own, no one sent him out.

a) We need these wedding halls as a community. Sure it's a hardsship on those living on these blocks. It's part of the cost of living in a heimish area. If it's real bad, they can sell and move.
b) The noise is caused by the PEOPLE coming/going from these halls. they are the inconsiderate ones that make noise even though they know that they are bothering the people living there. These people are the cause of these problems.
c) Viznitz suffers from traffic of the Flatbush crowd, as 53rd is a conduit for that traffic coming to BP. So it's not only the hall that creates the traffic and noise
c) He is a "mooser", regardles of Viznitzer hall. Statements that he said in court would make you cringe.
d) Viznitz has offered to buy his house at $100,000 more than his best offer. he doesn't want to move. This issue gives this Rasha and his nebech son what to do.
e) If we close all these heimish halls - you will be driving to Long Island to make chasuna - and no one will come - Good for you.

As a neighbor of the hall, I would like to say "Shame on you Mr. Steinberg and shame on your son" it is a privilage to live on such a block with such zeesa kinder and such nice lebedige simchas, the area is constantly cleaned and maintained, I also know for a fact that viznitz had a private security guard and he was constantly being harrased by Steinberg and that chases away the guard, all I can say that "The grouchy unhappy creature Steinberg" causes much more pain and suffering to the neighbors then the beautiful hall that helps make chasuna for a reasonable price, THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY NEEDS THE HALL! PLEASE POST YOUR COMMENTS AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT

If Steinberg, (who fancies himself a Rav Hamachshir!!!!!) would have more hechsherim jobs, he wouldn't have time to be busy with these shtissim.
But, then again, that is certainly not better for Klel Yisroel.
B"H Henry's Fish store on 18th & 60-61 closed up so people are Steinberg is no longer being machshil innocent people!
You should have read his 'Teudas Hechsher' hanging in the window next to the lobster!

It's not "neighbors" of viznitze hall, rather just an old lonely troubled man and his 40 year old single mentally unstable son.

All they want is to have what to do with their empty time, and some attention.

The hall management offered them to buy off their house a long time ago, but they refuse. They want to bring down the whole institution, even if that means mesira, lies, genieva and damage of property.

Oh, I forgot, they also have a profound hatred toward hasidim.

I once attended a wedding of a friend, where that lunatic through a water balloon on the chassan and kallah when they came out of the hall after the chassene, missing them by mere inches...

Mr. Matt:

I got news for you. You have tremendous chutzpah to put a school with an illegal wedding hall in middle of a residential area. The result being the noise and traffic congestion sometimes late at night not to mention the blocked driveways. How dare you call an elderly person Mr. Steinberg, yimach shmoe??? You and your yeshiva are the biggest mechutzeff for doing this. Not to mention to Vishnitz. Shame on you!!

To Matt, the bottom line here is that you guys are making weddings on the street and you are causing a massive chillul Hashem. Why arent there any complaints about Ateres Chaya or Ateres Chynka? Bc they dont have thousand guys on street by a chupa at nine oclock at night. Secondly they have valet parking. Mr Steinberger isnt right to go on TV and cause a chillul Hashem but you guys are wrong you cant just come inbc you want make money on wedding hall and backup traffic through BP.My inlaws wanted me to get married there bc it was cheap and I politely refused . I told them that I dont want my Chasuna night to cause stealing of someones sleep or to cause tzaros for people on the block Jew or non jew. I hope everyone in the future will do the same

"We need these wedding halls as a community. Sure it's a hardsship on those living on these blocks. It's part of the cost of living in a heimish area. If it's real bad, they can sell and move."

What a wonderful idea!! How about all those people posting here about how great this hall is, but are living 2 miles away, BUY these homes and live next to the noise?

That's right. Put you money where your mouth is. Buy those homes for the price that these people paid for them, not for the lower price they are now worth after this hall is blasting music.

I don't live in Boro Park so I can't complain about the traffic and the parking, but, when I do go to a chasuna there, I would like to find an easy place to park, not in someone's driveway, not double parked. There ought to be a requirement for simcha halls to provide a parking lot for at least a minimum amount of cars (200?). Whether they use a lot nearby or build an underground garage or whatever is irrelevant, the hall should provide parking.

theirs a hall in the center of Lakewood that at 11pm the music has to stop so it doesn't cause that much stealing of sleep. and why cant viznitz make the chupa in side, instead of on the sidewalk that would save them a lot of money on fines? and why cant they offer valet parking so no one would block anybodies driveway?

Hey Anonymous : March 11, 2009 7:03 PM are you Jewish I think not because no Jew would talk about another Jew like that for any reason or your just a self hating and I feel bad for you

All I can say i that people should not make their weddings in this hall until a posek hador gives them a heter to cause stealing of peoples sleep, and or hardships for the tzibbur, be it parking ,noise, garbage, etc. Any chosson and Kallah out there should really ask themselves do I want to get married in a mokom where my Chasuna, one of the holiest days of my life, will be causing people direct hardship or tzarus. Where during my chupa when the brachos are being said somechild will be woken up bc 500 people are saying amen to my sheva bracha outside at 8pm. The parking garage idea is ridicilous bc property in BP as everyone knows is gold and its not cost effective

A very important note to all readers:
Viznitz does have a CEO and it was issued "for catering use", the issue is not wether the hall is legal now or not, the hall is currently operating with a CEO, the issue is now that the "mussar steinberg is convincing the DOB to revoke it"

"There is no hetter to go to the authorities under almost any circumstance."

Unless you're a rebbe.

btw all negative comments against viznitz are coming from the same email address "its only 2 disgruntled people" steinberg and his son trying to reply to evreyones message, there is nobody else against the hall

Mr Steinberg might be a bitter old man..but this in no way excuses the fact that the hall causes people frustration, be it with having to find parking or others blocking the intersection because people are to lazy to walk half a block.

The people from Boro Park are not to blame as much as the hall owners are to blame for opening the hall on a busy intersection in a residential neighborhood.

The only reason I can imagine that those defending the hall have, is either you somehow have a benefit from the hall staying open or some real religious fanaticism which is driving you, which if the latter being the case please look into this Religion called Islam or Neturei Karta.

I do not condone going to authorities over any of our internal matters since we are all brothers for good or for bad, however i will say this, there are a some arrogant people amongst us which are usually in positions of leadership...and that needs to stop!

I know for a fact that Viznitz has all the legal papers, permits, certificate of occupancy (C of O) and all. And that is the reason why no judge could find a legitimate reason to shut this hall.

Viznitz has all the right to keep this hall going, and they didn't cause any harm to the neighbors since this has always been an industrial zone and a commercial property.

And viznitz is trying teir best to keep it quiet outside, they have a few security guards all night to make sure, as much as is in his power, that people don't double park, honk or make a commotion on the street.

They make sure to keep the front of the hall empty so that people dropping off and picking up people to and from the wedding should not have to stand in the midde of the street.

To all nay Sayers, let me tell you, Vizntz is the only decent and normal looking hall with such rock bottom prices! It doesn't look so much worse than Ateres Chaya and they charge less than half the price per couple, and the food is even better. So what they do for our community is much more than we can ever pay back.

They do as much as they can to keep this lunatic's mouth shut but he always finds other things to complain about.

I was once there for a wedding, and I was standing on the street talking quietly to a friend, it was about 8 O'clock at night, and this alte mamzer came out of his house and started screaming at me that I don't have no right standing on "his" sidewalk. He started harassing me until I took out a phone and pretended to call police to claim the harassment.

The guy needs a serious doctor and his son a serious shidduch, on second thought, I wouldn't want to put any girl through this living hell.

Let him go find a hob and something to do with his spare time and he should stop harassing the people who happen to get in his cross hairs.

Refuah Shelaima!

First of all I will apologize about my typing I wrote this right after watching the most anti Semite video I couldn’t believe watching a so called Look-A-Like frum Jew is reporting to a non Jew & causing the biggest "Chilul Hashem" .

let me give some history I was bought up on 50th Street Between 13-14th Ave where there is at least 20 buses parked on both sides of the road Schools, Halls, & the Borough Park Y And of course the loud noisy NYC City Buses and all other Bus Routes pass there 24/7 I have lived since before the big Young Israel building became Klauzenberg & Vien School Adas Yereim Hall even moved there as well . And then I moved away to a quiet area in Boro Park to 54th Street Bet Fort Hamilton Pkwy & 11th Ave when just like after 1 year living Satmar came bought an old abandon building on the corner where drugs use to be traded all night and turned into the busiest wedding hall called "Torah V'Yeriah" and I had the same problem of people misbehaving of parking and still I would have think of reporting anyone on 54th street I had an issue that the block is built with semi detached houses so between every driveways it fits exactly 2 cars and sometimes a wedding comer would park in the middle of the 2 driveways not realizing he is taking up 2 spaces

THE 53RD STREET PARKING ISSUE ANSWERS

1) this block is the only way in from Flatbush, Midwood, Gravesend, Bensohourst, Ocean Pkwy which leads to all traffic coming down from the Belt Pkwy & even as from JFK International Airport into Boro Park

2) All other blocks around there you cannot get thru this is the only drive thru block

3) This thru traffic is causing all the beeping pain when "Nye’s" are known not to have paitions for someone to drop off a passenger which only takes a minute or so

4) An answer in total of all parking misbehaving
It’s an issue all over the city of people double & Triple Park

5) Disorderly conduct
Is not the Schools problem
"THE SCHOOL IS NOT THE ONE TO CORRECT A COMMON PROBLEM THE CITY IS FACING

6) Playing amplified music in public especially at late hours

Is totally not true (btw that hall is so deep down that people even complain about it being that low with too many steps going down)

And if there is a trumpet after a "Chuppah" playing for a minute or two which take place before the reception that’s not called even noise

7) Parking on the sidewalk
well its a common thing that u see a commercial truck take the sidewalk for delivery's its not safe for our children the hall asks every delivery not to do so but sometimes trucks just pull on the sidewalk being use to the abuse the have all day from the meter maids giving them ticket for meters but when they are on the sidewalk they don't get ticketed

anyway i sign here i will answer every comment someone has to me except the ones that just curse out the whole thing without knowing any facts

I am a employee at the Vizhnitzer Hall and we have someone commenting on all the sites to make Mr. Steinberger look bad and to make it seem the hall doesnt bother anyone-
If i lived on this block I would be angry too-the owners have no regard for anyone- the garbage piled up(rats too)- and to ""There is no hetter to go to the authorities under almost any circumstance." thats thew same retards who dont go to the police when there kids get molested. Did the news fake the reporting of double parked cars? or 500 people in the street blocking traffic? No!! the Vizhnitzer hall think they are better than anyone because they have streimels-trust me I work here!! the owners are scared and want this to go away-keep calling them and keep up the pressure

the wedding hall should be an hour out of the city in the middle of the woods so the noise cannot disturb anyone.

god bless mr steinberg for making a stand against injustice

The following is a link I found of the CEO for viznitz, to me it looks like they clearly have a legal catering hall, i am not exactly sure what the issue is

http://a810-cofo.nyc.gov/cofo/B/300/131000/300131122F.PDF

Do you guys mind tackling the real issue which is people being woken up at night by inconsiderate people honking their horn ? Stop being so selfish and thing of the people which need to sleep please.

There are 2 solutions to this problem, #1 to have a cop there writing out a large summons plus points to anyone which blocks the intersection or honks their horn past a certain hour of the night #2 to close the hall down.

To all of you referring to people who defend the hall as "you guys" or "so-called religious guys with shtraimels":
There's no doubt as to how you formed your opinions regarding this hall. Bred from pure hatred of chassidim or yeshivishe people. Utter racist trash!
Go book your weddings in Long Island, pay a fortune and have only the elite people come as guests. If that's what you want, go for it!
Just get your facts straight before you spew ignorant venom about decent people. The hall obeys the law. I live in the neighborhood, go by all the time and never hear any "amplified music" coming from the deep recesses of the building. No, I'm not deaf, The only loud sounds are those coming from Steinberg, who has no right to go to any authority under any circumstances period.
In your own words people caused a commotion on Purim night at 2:30 am. Maybe Steinberg and all of "you guys" should have Purim banned?
So how was your daily shiur in Mein Kampf today? Got a chiddush on the Protocols of the Elders of Zion?

To the one claiming to be an employee in Viznitz hall, Oh puhleez!!! Stop with that bull Crap! If you were employed by Viznitz you would still want your job, you would not want the hall to close and would not comment against it.

Anyone who knows this matter up close knows ho's right.

It's just Mr. Steinberg and his son who were busy a whole Purim commenting all over under various names bashing viznitz, shtraimels, and Chassidim. Nebach they didn't have whom to give mishloach manos to, cuz none of the neighbors want anything to do with him, and children/grand children hut er nebech oich nisht, cause his ultra stupid son can't find a wife...
Therefore they filled their empty Purim time with being like Haman and going to the government to take revenge in Mordechay. but today when all NORMAL people are back to work and they started showing support for Viznitz these two animals became wild, they are jumping out of their skin, they start commenting with more hatred, more rapidity, as much as they can. Well, Steinberg’s, wake up and smell the coffee, no one is with you on this! You are alone...

Mr. Steinberg and son, stop posting under 200 different names, under neighbor, employee, Flatbush guy, and so on.

Spoke to my assemblyman and it seems everyone is aware of the problem.

The school should be shut down and the hall-just from the video its most upsetting. and once someone says its bad all of a sudden they are non-frum, anti-semites ,anti-chassidih, get a life!! and take a class in derech eretz

I passed by today and its true-its a madhouse there!! call the yeshivah and hall -SHUT THEM DOWN!! we need to organize a protest hmm.. maybe during a wedding? that will get your attention!! 4:30 in the morning are you guys not embarrased? 500 people in the street- lets say us neighbors blocked the street during events then these idiots would complain-

the Vizhnitzer Rebbe in Bnei Brak
needs to hear about this-I wonder what he waould pasak on this-if he knew whata chilul hashem this hall is making?

chassidim are bunch of retards that do stupid things in their life.like blocking traffic by talking on a cell phone while driving or spacing out.typical double parking that hatzolah and citry buses that cant pass through.they go crazy if they see a woman in the street not wearing a mask or something on their face bec its not tznius.especially vizhnitzer hall, they wouldnt care if people block other peoples driveway just to get into the hall instead of parking somewhere else whether its close or far.ure bunch of ganuvs that steal people on that block sleep and property.

chasidim aren't retards, this is a big chillul hashem, you are not allowed to disturb people with music, i don't care how long for, if it's going to disturb them at night, how can you say that you're allowed to. and also why is he not allowed to tell the city what's going on, shame on you people who defend the hall and the people who create the chillull hashem

Typical hate driven comment, not rationalizing with the matter at hand at all.

Uhh, by the way, you sound like a very well educated fella, the smart is screaming out of you!

what a shame these religious people blame the victims (people who live on the block) instead of looking at themselves and the way they act.
Vizhnitzer you owe every yid now a apology for making us look bad and I suggest you start with the people on your block.

8:24 am:
Typical hate-driven comment again. If you don't like the situation at the hall go back to Gaza! Heil!

to anon 1:47 am,yeh i am an educated jew.but i dont have to be educated for this bec i live in boro park and i see it every single day.whether its 13th,14th,15th,16th ave etc. chassidim have the tendency to block traffic and cause everybody else to be either late to work or to get to their destination places.i have a good question for you.are you allowed to steal a persons sleep and driveway?
if it says it in the torah, then youre right.

when chassidim block traffic, they go "duhhhh,am i blocking traffic when i double park? duhhhhhh,i dont know, let me think".
when they thought of brains, they thought it was trains!

YEMACH SHMOI-Vizhnitzer Catering Hall

you chassids in boro park should get the same vile language as you dish out...

This is Slotsburg rest area revisited.

To March 13, 2009 1:12 PM.

Yeah, educated! I see you learned how to use this thing they call a "Space bar" since your last post, that's progress...

Lets see, how educated are you? from your spelling and grammar it sounds like you're chassidish, sorry if you take sounding chassidish as an insult.

Oh and anon 9:21 PM, OUCH! that hurt. Just shows what drives you...

Vizhnitzer Catering Hall---Please do something-you are making us into animals!!----look what you caused--next you will probably have a Lipa concert --ohh nebach!!!sua

to anon 12:09 am, you didn't even answer my question!

take a look what the first comment from matt said-and then talk about me

Vizhnitzer Catering Hall-I have been there and it is so true!!-I have no idea how the hall is defending itself by saying "everyone else does it"-since when is it ok (heter) to ruin people sleep- driveway-block- etc.. for that excuse.it is a total disgrace and chilul hashem what goes on there. I hope the hall and the guests look at themselves before blaming the victims. trully horrible-you guys at the hall need a mussar seder,,probably of all boro park needs it-LONG LIVE FLATBUSH!!

let it CLOSE DOWN!!!!!, no one needs the hall on the block, if they think of the cumminty let it at least be open on Shabbos. all they care for there own MONEY!!!! they have promised!!!! meetings with the block and they never stood up to there words.......... as usally....

wherever and whenever the chassidim popping up the quality of life deteriorates rapidly that's why many normal jewish neighborhods dissassociated themselves with chassidim(remember village of Airmont?
Unfortuntely there are very few lonely individuals who had guts to stand up to chassidic hillul Hashem.
And for those defending chassidim :did you ever think about what comes on goy's mind when he drives through 53 street(or any other street in BP or Williamsburg)

recently went there, chupa only. sidewalk was clear. a car dropped someone off, then pulled out, perhaps to find parking around the corner or a block away/somewhere. Either way, no parking on the sidewalk. kids down the block on bikes and tricycles - a normal thing. My prior time there, thru bentching, the sidewalk was still reasonable, ladies waiting for husbands to retrieve cars parked somewhere, but not any more noisy than the same number of people at 18th avenue bus stop. Men on the sidewalk? less crowded than by the kuggel at the shmorg. I live a block away from another hall, so this is not with Rose-tinted glasses. Too crowded? Other states have Brooklyns! Just not as "Heimish"
